Chili Cheese Panini
Reading Time: 2 minutes
By Hannah McClure There’s nothing like a good, warm pot of homemade chili! Except, maybe, leftover chili to remake into a delicious meal the next day. One of my favorite ways, a perhaps very messy way, is to make a chili cheese panini! This super simple make is a great way to use up leftover chili any time of the year. I sure hope you enjoy it.
You Will Need
- Italian bread, sliced
- 1 pound Black Forest ham, sliced thin *please note: you will have leftover meat*
- sliced Muenster cheese
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced thin
- 1 9oz bag of chili cheese Fritos
- Leftover chili, juice drained
How to Make
- Butter the outside of each piece of Italian bread
- On a single piece of Italian bread, layer 4 to 6 slices of ham, 1 slice of Muenster cheese, 3 or 4 slices of bell pepper, a small handful of Fritos, and ¼ cup chili. Top with another piece of Italian bread, being sure that butter side is out.
- Using a waffle iron or panini press, heat sandwich till golden brown on the outside.
- Allow to cool for 5 minutes before slicing in half and serving.
***If you don’t have a panini press or waffle iron, you can easily create this chili cheese panini in a cast iron skillet. Use a smaller skillet to “press” the sandwich by gently setting the sandwich into the larger pan and setting the smaller pan on top of the sandwich. ***
